26th January 2011- Recap of Yesterday
Yesterday... There were no words to describe it. Tens of thousands of my fellow countrymen, in one mind and voice, took to the streets holding placards, flying banners and shouting themselves hoarse protesting poverty, rampant unemployment, government corruption and the autocratic governance of President Hosni Mubarak, who has done nothing yet has been in power for 30 years. I saw mothers in hijabs and students in denim, all gathered around Tahrir Square. All was going well until the police arrived with water cannons, tear gas and sticks. Never mind them, we just continued to protest and protest and march on. Suddenly, I heard shouts and sounds of scuffling. They had blocked our way into Tahrir Square!! I saw some off our protesters go down in a hail of tear gas. Water deluged us from all sides. Eyes watering, the crowd shoved forward, valiantly resisting the riot police who were now trying to stem the protests. Finally, after much shouting and fighting with minimal casualties, we broke through the barrier. I myself sustained a bad wound on the right side of my leg, but managed to break through to Tahrir Square. We were to stay there demanding the reformation of the Egyptian government. All according to the plan coordinated online on Twitter. What? I can't access Twitter now? The government must've blocked it........
